Max is a Professor in the department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Windsor. His major focus in his teaching and research include: Roman Civilization, Roman History and Society, Latin, The Classical Tradition, Leisure and Pleasure in the Ancient World, The Ancient World on the Screen, and Magic in the Ancient World. 

Max’s research and writings often blend aspects of ancient social history, particularly the history of pleasure - this often includes the consumption of alcohol. Max is the author of “The Barbarian's Beverage: A History of Beer in Ancient Europe.”
